2004-2005 ‘Transitional rural landscapes’, small research project in a former homeland of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. In collaboration with Dr. Torben Birch-Thomsen.

- Internal migration in developing countries, including studies of modernization processes in frontier settlements and socio-economic impacts on ‘source’ localities where the population basis is eroded.
- The role of decentralization for the implementation of educational reforms and migratory patterns
- The impact of globalization on ‘local’ development
