2005-2007         ‘Changing livelihoods in the coffee frontier in Vietnam’s Central Highlands: Exploring the role of rural-urban dynamics, global market integration and state involvement’, research project being part of the research program: ‘Rural-Urban Dynamics in a Globalizing World: Changing Livelihoods and Settlement Patterns in Frontier Regions of Africa and Asia’, funded by the Danish Council for Development Research

2004-2005         ‘Transitional rural landscapes’, small research project in a former homeland of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. In collaboration with Dr. Torben Birch-Thomsen.

2004-2007         ‘Local responses to global education reforms: Lessons learnt from decentralisation and community involvement in public schooling in Nepal’. In collaboration with Dr Stephen Carney (Roskilde University) and Dr. Min Bh. Bista (Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu), funded by the Danish Council for Development Research

  • Internal migration in developing countries, including studies of modernization processes in frontier settlements and socio-economic impacts on ‘source’ localities where the population basis is eroded.
  • The role of decentralization for the implementation of educational reforms and migratory patterns
  • The impact of globalization on ‘local’ development
